Milwaukee guitar amp tech recommendations??

Question:

Could someone please recommned a good Fender tube guitar amp tech in the Milwaukee WI area (i live in waukesha)?  I did a dejanews search and saw recommendations in Chicago and Madison, but nothing in the Milwaukee area. I recently acquired a ‘73 Fender Pro Reverb of unknown history.  I would like to take it to the doctor for a checkup, probably a cap job, bias adjustment, etc…but I don’t want to put my big new heavy toy in the mail….

Hello,     Congrats on your amp!  What’s important for me is an amp tech who provides good service, is knowledgeable about my amp(s), has fair and just prices for his/her labor and expertise, and is willing to share information and make recommendations to me.     For all of the above, I find it very, very easy to simply take the tubes out of the chassis, and take chassis out of the wooden enclosure.  I wrap up the tubes and chassis separately with bubble wrap and then ship both packages in the same box, well padded and reinforced, to my amp tech, Bruce at Mission Amps in Colorado.     When I ship my amp chassis, it costs about $15 including insurance and return receipt, so for $30 you get your amp into the right hands, and the right knowledgeable hands.     If you consider the cost of trying to drive your amp out of town to somebody, wait around for it to be done (if you have an appointed time agreed upon by the amp tech), and then driving it back, my time is far more valuable than the $30 I spend to ship it to my tech.     If the process of removing your chassis "sounds" daunting or hard, the tech you select can walk you through it.  Most Fenders are a piece of cake to have the chassis out of the amp in no time at all.  It appeared difficult to me from the "not having done it" place, but once I did it, its a piece of cake.  Be careful when handling your chassis and don’t put your fingers into the chassis, because some of the internal components retain a "charge" that will really zap you.     If you consider that the majority of your amp weight is the wooden enclosure and the speaker, you can ship it very easily and efficiently.  And it’s well worth "your time" do ship it to the right tech, not just to the tech who lives nearby but may not have an interest in your amp or you.  I’ve "heard" good things about Ned Carlson, who I believe has his amp tech operation in Chicago.  My tech, Bruce at Mission Amps, is in Colorado.  Glad to help you with anything else if I can.     Good luck and may your tone always be good! Walk in Beauty, Peace.  Scott
