Reverb/tremelo footswitch for sixties blackface Fender amps
Question:
Does anybody know of a source for reverb/tremelo footswitches for sixties blackface Fender guitar amps, such as the Twin Reverb, Super Reverb, Deluxe Reverb, etc.? I would like to find some original working Fender footswitches if possible, or at least a current dual footswitch pedal from any manufacturer that will work properly with sixties Fender amps either out-of-the-box or with simple modifications. I don’t think these footswitches are available from Fender either in orginal or re-issue form. The current Fender footswitches have a single cord with a stereo plug as opposed to the original two leads with phono plugs, and I don’t know if they can be converted to work with the sixties amps. I did have some success in the past converting Roland FS-2 generic dual footswitches by replacing their two quarter inch plugs with phono plugs, and altering the internal circuitry of that footswitch to emulate the original Fender footswitch circuitry, but I believe Roland discontinued the FS-2 footswitch several years ago. Any assistance in locating either original or modern footswitches that will serve the desired purpose would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chuck
Response:
Chuck, Currdnt Fender footswitches with a stereo plug can be converted to the two rca plug kind. I have done it by making an adaptor from a stereo headphone jack and an rca plug patch cord (common phono type) which I cut in half. Basically, you wire the common lead of both wires to ground, and wire the tip for reverb and the ring for vibrato, and then make sure that the shields of the RCA cords are wired to ground and hots wired one to tip and one to ring. Ya know what I mean? You can buy the older ones, but they’re not cheap. If you want to go that route you can check Angela Instruments in Annapolis Junction (Maryland). Good luck, Paul

They can be easily converted. Any Fender dealer can get them for you. — Len Moskowitz
