Thanks for posting this link!!!! His passing was a real loss to the music world. John was a fine fiddler as well, his final work was devoted to archiving and anotating the field recordings of the **great** Kentucky fiddler, Ed Haley. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000007S7X/102-2855800-4041763?v=gla… n=5174 He also did a tribute album of himself playing Haleys tunes as well, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000005YVL/ref=pd_bxgy_text_b/102-28… 0-4041763?%5Fencoding=UTF8 but the "real thing" is certainly worth listening to if you can get beyond the poor recording quality.. –Mike (who will never play like Ed Haley regardless how hard I try).

I’ll always remember him standing up in the audience at the beginning of the Glen Campbell show picking "Gentle on my Mind". I’ll truly miss him. — "Guitarmen, wake up and pluck wire for sound, let ‘em hear you play" – CHARLIE CHRISTIAN 1939

Aeons ago, I saw John Hartford play a spot on the Smothers Bros., or it’s ’summer replacement’ Glen Campbell… He played the violin… BUT, while he played a sort of country/bluegrass/irish thing… he tap-danced. For all you folks who think they’re ‘the shit’, try playing the most simple tune you know, single note runs (no chords), and "pretend" to tap-dance. It isn’t possible. Very sad to lose such a great guy… BTW, Glenn Campbell used to have some of the BEST players show up on his show… and there was always the ‘jam session’ segment of his show, where they’d all just call a tune and go… great stuff.

Some people don’t know that Glen Campbell was a very sought after studio musician back in the day and even did a stint with the Beach Boys (bass, I believe). — "Guitarmen, wake up and pluck wire for sound, let ‘em hear you play" – CHARLIE CHRISTIAN 1939

There’s a thing on youtube with Glen Campbell singing Rocky Raccoon, and John Hartford playing fiddle, and Flip Wilson os Rocky. It’s kind of amusing, but I thought this clip was a better representation of John Hartford. Pete

I’ve seen Glenn Campbell a couple times… in the last 10 yrs. He has to do all the *hits*, and does them well. But, he’s a *real* player and can play WAY more stuff than most people realize. I watched him play a couple of killer jazz riffs on a country swing tune that 98% of his *fans* probably ‘missed’.

You could almost believe he was enjoying himself.
