AMP-PORN

Question:

OK, I’ve been going thru old catalogs, and old guitars.  NONE of these are for sale, at any price. But ya gotta love the porn… MORE is on the way.. JJT http://www.jtashjian.com/ampporn/ampporn.html

Response:

U have no clue (yet) how sick… OH, YEAAAHHHHH..  I’ll be posting more this weekend. I still have the guitars pictured (right outside my door, as the pix show) but no longer hold the ‘belt’ (made by Reggie Parks, THE belt maker, for a video game..note the word "atari’ on the side.) or the LP. That LP is *THE* instrument played (sold to him by me) by BW on Areosmith’s "J’s got a gun" Video.  Word is, it was stolen a few months later.  Wait till you see my NEXT sick act. JJT

Response:

BW .. Allot of people think he is just a *rhythm* player to Joe but he is one hell of a player .. Joe struts around and BW does the work. Ping me over a b24warbaby at yahoo com I got Leo doing stuff to amps that can’t be shown to minors.

My ears are already ringing just from LOOKING at those aluminum voice coil covers!  I generally like a rounder tone.  But cool shots, nonetheless!

I’d kill for 4-10" CTS speakers with the Al covers with the felt centers. — "Guitarmen, wake up and pluck wire for sound, let ‘em hear you play"      – CHARLIE CHRISTIAN 1939

I had two 12’s like that with heavy square magnets.  I don’t know what happened to them.  I might still have one around.  One cone got a hole punched through it, years ago.

google ….

These are scans from a Book (Printed in Japanese) called the History of Electric Guitars.  I bought it LONG ago at a store next to Manny’s that mainly dealt in guitar parts from Japan, and finished ‘part’ guitar creations.  My copy is VERY fragile, or I’d PDF it.  TONS of pix, catalog reprints, from the USA and Japan.  Pix of tours, history(s) of the builders..alas, all I cannot read.  ENJOY! http://www.jtashjian.com/ampporn/amppornJ.html

Response:

http://www.giannini.com.br/eng/home.asp I 1st heard of them as a Merson dealer, as Unicord/Merson was the USA importer.  AWESOME guitars, they were cheap, and looked kool.  The site has an HUGE !! collection of .pdf’ed catalogs, where I got the pix.  A shame USA companies (n UK too) can’t offer such stuff on their sites. Regarding those aluminum voice coil covers… Have you tried Ted Weber to see if he knows if they are available?

Response:

Does your Hayman 20-20 ring when you pound on the body? Mine had a hidden (buried) spring mechanism whose purpose was a mystery. Great neck, good lacquer job. 23 frets is just perverse (even if there IS a zero fret!). Elmo’ 7#9

Response:

http://www.jtashjian.com/ampporn/amppornMT.html Here’s all the numbers, I’m sure FMIC has some leftover PT for ya.  Great amp, and easily tweeked.  I doubt if the schematic is diff then the ‘Super T’, tranz wise. JJT

Yes, it does.  Haven’t played it in years. Pr1mo/Vox/Riverhead/etc also sold what was left of those items, while Pampalone (who also sold WEM leftovers) had a few, as they were connected with what was left of SoundCity/Dallas.  I have alot of info buried about it, but the old GREEN Burns book states nothing about a ’spring’.  The later "Diamonds" book said this: "..insides the body a "vibrosonic" tone chamber is routed, into which 2 strings…"..  oh fuck, read it here: http://www.jtashjian.com/ampporn/amppornHM.html BOTH books are worth the weight in gold.. JJT

Response:

Thanks for that. Mine had an additional pair of 3-way slide switches for singlecoil/parallel-humbucking/coilphase for each pickup. Slightly microphonic, though. I had a Shergold Marathon 6-string bass, too. Elmo’ 7#9

That must be close to my set! .010, .013, .015, .026, .032, .038 I usually throw my string envelopes out not long after I string up a guitar.

Carvin made the doubleneck Joe Maphis used?  I had no idea who made that guitar.  I didn’t realize Carvin was around that long. I kind of think I have a ‘76 Carvin catalog somewhere that’s in good shape.  I’ll have to see if I can dig it out.  Maybe get off my ass and get the scanner working with this computer.

Response:

Ya want to know these things, you buy the right books. Alot of folks po-po the U/Tone books, but not me. Kevin O’Conner gives this info away, $ wise.   http://www.jtashjian.com/ampporn/ap201.html AND..I still say, after doing this mod on a few amps, you will set it in one position, and be happy. ALSO..make sure your fixed bias cap is larger then the C/Bias.  As you switch, the time needed to charge each ‘option’ best be right.  You do NOT want your tubes with bias of any kind..or it’s bye-bye tubes, maybe OT. Just because it looks good on paper doesn’t mean YOUR vintage <?> amp can handle the stress to do it. Get the biggest strongest switch ya can surplus, and yes, make b4 break.  Your tubes can handle BOTH types of bias at the same time, but will freak out with no bias. JJTj
