Playing bass through a Marshall Bluesbreaker?
Question:
Hey hey, I was wondering if it’s ok to play a bass through a Marshall Bluesbreaker combo? Considering it’s a guitar amp will I damage it if I play bass through it? Simon

Hi, At LOW volume it is OK. If play loud you pop the speaker. We play guitar most of time in the house with many different amps, guitars but for bass we have one bass amp(H&K Bassbase 600) with matching 2X12. I Popped a speaker playing bass through an instrument amp. Had to keep up with guitar/drum and Ooops! One day it popped, LOL.

Is this a reissue or early model …? .. Not that it *should* matter. Those amps are derived from original Fender/RCA designs and they have been tweaked for the high freq of guitar, AFAIK your risk is low. All the original amps had multiple inputs (bass/normal) for a bass, guitar .. and a singer ! IMO .. The only risk are the speakers, but of you pop a Marshall speaker with a bass .. the product line has certainly gone down the crapper. Popping a cheap speaker from a shitty amp is another story.

You should run it through a bass cabinet for the BB’s speakers sake. The JTM45/Bluesbreaker’s circuit was lifted from the Tweed Fender Bassman, but it seems like a poor choice for a bass amp. It’s only about 40watts, so it won’t be as clean as a good bass amp.
