Question:
Hi all, I’ve been toying with the idea of using the audio components of an old german tube radio console to make a 5 watt guitar amp. As it is, the thing is not voiced for guitar and thus sounds more like playing guitar through a bass amp (real round and smooth). [...]

Cable for DI

Question:
I’m not sure I’m understanding you here. Do you mean playing the guitar through a HiFi system with a guitar cord for pluging ? The flat amplification (as an HiFi system can do) of a guitar will result in a very VERY medium sound with almost no highs and no definition. [...]

RAT, oh shining paradigm

Question:
I’ll never ever again complain that it is dull on RAT. At least the majority of posts here are on topic, the offtopic posts are decently written and often well-informed, and the nastiest inhabitants are a surrender froggie and a queer, crooked garage trader. And their petty nastinesses aren’t a patch [...]

Good-Sounding, Hi-Power, But Inefficient Speaker?

Question:
I’ve got a Traynor YBA-4.  This is a 1×15 combo version of the YBA-1. It’s about 50 watts with two EL34s.  Sounds great cranked but I can’t turn it up much over 2 at gigs.  I have a Weber Cali 15 in it now.  I’m wondering what else I might put in [...]

power amp vs. guitar power amp

i have a somewhat complex question. Guitars have a limited freq. spectrum. For the sake of discussion, say a six string has 80 Hz to 7 kHz. Why is that upper register so low? Is it the speaker that is doing the frequency cutoff or is it the power amp? [...]
