Fly an amp to europe

Question:

Hi all, has anyone bought a gear, especially a bulky one like a powr amp, and flew it to europe before? Did you face any difficulties, like customs? Thanks Baran

Hi, I shipped a bass to Sweden once via UPS, no problem. Shipped a guitar to Italy once, no problem. Just pack it well and if you want to be sure, insure it. Tony

Now, you don’t say whether you’re from here, going there, or whether you’re from there, and returning there… in fact, there’s a *whole* bunch you’re not saying.  Is this guitar equipment? Will you be carrying any other equipment? Is this being freighted, or checked as baggage? Are you intending to sell the equipment there? It helps if the equipment is obviously used… and the presence of other equipment that this power amp would be used with would be highly recommended.  There may also be limits to the value of undeclared things you may bring with you… this is your responsibility to determine before leaving the country (is this a $20K amp?). __ Steve .

I doubt anyone has flown a power amp, bulky or otherwise, to Europe! > Did you face any difficulties, like customs?

To heck with customs; you’ll have a hard enough time finding an extension cord long enough to reach across the Atlantic! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Thanks > Baran

I’ve flown American Airlines over to Europe a couple   of times .. huge ass planes. Most amps are too small to carry enough   fuel to fly that far. —-== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com – Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==—- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups —-= East and West-Coast Server Farms – Total Privacy via Encryption =—-

Yes but it was many years ago. I had a QSC1400 power amp in a SKB case with a keyboard preamp and DI setup.  We also took a bass amp, guitar amp, drums. keyboard and guitars.  We went from USA to Zurich – no problem.   GH/SS

Different voltages and plug ends as well as electrical safety regulations. In Europe the mains voltages are 230 W at 50 Hz while in the States it’s 110 / 60. This effectively means that you have to find a new transformer for the amp and have it installed by a tech. Also the reason why Epi’s Jr heads still aren’t available in Europe, takes time to build models with different transformers and have them approved by the safety councils etc.

I disagree. On the way down, it will become the bigger problem. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> —-== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com – Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet > News==—- > http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ > Newsgroups > —-= East and West-Coast Server Farms – Total Privacy via Encryption =—-

Going down is the natural effect of gravity. No problem to   solve there. It’s a given. Going up is where the intelligence and   problem solving skills are required.   There is one minor obstacle to over come regarding stopping but left alone that tends to solve itself too. —-== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com – Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==—- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups —-= East and West-Coast Server Farms – Total Privacy via Encryption =—-
