As I recall, the most popular amps in the US were: Fender Deluxe Reverb: 22 W (2 x 6V6) Fender Super Reverb: 40 W (2 x 6L6) Fender Twin Reverb: 80 W (4 x 6L6)

Fender has 100W amps going back at least as early as 1960. I’m not sure when Marshall, Hiwatt and Orange came out with 100W.

There was a blonde Showman back in 1960 rated at 100W.

And the Vox AC30 was popular then too: 30 watts (4 x EL84) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> As I recall, the most popular amps in the US were: > Fender Deluxe Reverb: 22 W (2 x 6V6) > Fender Super Reverb: 40 W (2 x 6L6) > Fender Twin Reverb: 80 W (4 x 6L6) > There was a blonde Showman back in 1960 rated at 100W.

Correct. Actually, The ‘65 Twin Reverb w/ a quartet of 6L6’s was 85W. ‘60-’63, The brownface Twin w/ a quartet of 6L6’s (which preceeded the Twin Reverb) was rated at 90W! The ‘63 Vibroverb in brown tolex….2 10’s…Anybody?! The Super Reverb [w/ 4 10's] and Concert…Anybody? The Vibroking….3 10’s… The *whole* pre-PA System mentality Muscle Car approach to amp wattage is fun to document…tube and speaker size-wise; The ‘70-’72 Fender Super Bassman (2 15’s) was rated at 100W and a carried a quartet of 6L6’s. ‘79-’82…Head Only…The 140. A quartet of 6L6’s ‘87 The Twin 2 12’s…a quartet of 6L6’s…100W The ‘93 Tonemaster…2 12’s…a quartet of 6L6’s…100W That’s part of why I love my old ‘80 MusicMan 150 Watt 2 10’s, a quartet of 6L6’s and SS preamp. It ended the race just as the race got ended by a market hip to PA systems… Ah, Johhny Winter and EC.

One day Albert King did a tour with three JBL showman cabs on one of these babies….. http://timeelect.com/400-histy.htm But, THAT,…. was after 1965. I just thought, I should mention it though. GREAT freaking guitar amp. I still got buried somewhere one cab left, but in my stupid days, Ampeg sold a SVT with 4 V4 cabs, with Altecs. I couldn’t afford 4, but I got 2. ONE SVT head running 8 Altecs. I was hated by everyone, not only because I couldn’t play worth shit, but that I couldn’t control this amp..I doubt anyone could. The Stones used SVTs for guitar with big ‘SST-era cabs’ full of Altecs. About 10 of them, some in White Tolex. Faces also used (maybe those same amps) them. Sheit, Acoustic rented/loaned the same batch of cabs to any band willing to have a pix taken with them. Zappa/MOI had WALLS of 270s. The Doors too. Univox n Plush had Led Zep n Jeff Beck using them. I guess it beat taking yer own gear out on the road. Where r they now? The Stones last toured with a few w/tolex SVT heads in their backdrop. Looks great, even if not hitched up. Music stores used to be ‘Floor-Planned’ with walls and walls of amps. The thinking, if it’s not in the store, it wouldn’t be sold. Kustom n Sunn stacked all over the place. Traynor was the rental of choice around here, the local music chain (Chas Bean) was a big dealer. $8 a night, any amp still there, cab n head. PAs too, for $12 Now..anyone got info on GBX (schematics for the preamp) or info on the ARB brand. ? Shit, if I’m stuck in bead then I gotta be online. Try not to laugh.. JJT I am frolicsome, I am easy, Good tempered and free, And I don’t give a single pin my boys What the world thinks of me.

AAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the good old days when you could feel the music. > Traynor was the rental of choice around here, the local > music chain (Chas Bean) was a big dealer. $8 a night, > any amp still there, cab n head. PAs too, for $12
Back then, you could rent for a whole band for what it cost to rent a RI 65 Twin Reverb for a night. > Now..anyone got info on GBX (schematics for the preamp) > or info on the ARB brand. ? Shit, if I’m stuck in bead > then I gotta be online. Try not to laugh.. > JJT
